The Wild Birds Unlimited Barred Owl Cam is live! Mama Owl first checked out the nesting box in early February and laid her first egg on March 11, followed by a second egg on March 14. Historically, 2–3 eggs is typical at this nesting location. Papa Owl also plays an important role throughout nesting season by helping bring meals to the family, and viewers never know what might show up in the pantry next.
Now, the owlets, Artemis and Apollo, are growing quickly and getting ready for one of the most exciting stages yet: branching and fledging. Branching is when young owls begin climbing out onto nearby branches before they’re fully ready to fly. From there, they’ll soon take their first flights and begin exploring the world beyond the nest box.
We hope you enjoy following Artemis and Apollo as they continue to grow and take their next big steps in the wild!
