[Speaker] Attracting beautiful goldfinches to your backyard is certainly one of the payoffs for the backyard bird feeder. But the reality is, they can be a little hard to attract sometimes and they certainly can be finicky eaters. So here are some expert tips on how to attract and keep goldfinches in your backyard.
First of all, when you bring a new feeder in be patient. It may take the goldfinches up to a couple of weeks to find that feeder. One of the things you help them to find that feeder a little quicker is to put yellow – maybe a yellow ribbon, a piece of yellow cloth on the feeder, tie it to the feeder and it seems to help the goldfinches find it faster.
Another thing you can do is hang the feeder very high. Goldfinches seem to show a preference for feeders that are above head height.
You want to keep your seed fresh. They are definitely finicky eaters and they love fresh seed. One of the cool things about our Quick-Clean Feeders is that you can fill the feeder with the bottom instead of the top which keeps the fresh seed always cycling through the tube so that the fresh seed is always available to the goldfinches.
And last but not least goldfinches always travel in a group, in a flock. They’re very patient and they will wait their turn if there’s something to wait on near the feeder. So one of our E-Z Attach Decorative Branches is a perfect thing to allow the goldfinches to wait their turn for the food.
So that’s a few expert tips on how to attract and keep goldfinches in your backyard.
